General Product Safety RegulationGPSR
GPSR is the EU's baseline safety regime for every non-food consumer product sold to people in the EU 27 — DTC, marketplace or retail. Regonance scans your catalogue and surfaces the gaps marketplaces enforce.
The concrete categories in scope
Anyone placing consumer products on the EU market — DTC brands, Amazon EU / Etsy / Shopify sellers, importers, marketplaces and fulfilment operators. Non-EU sellers must appoint an EU Responsible Person.
What GPSR obliges you to do
Identify the product and the economic operator
Model, batch or serial number on the product or packaging; manufacturer + EU Responsible Person named with contact details.
Warnings, instructions and a technical file
Warnings and instructions in every destination language; an internal risk analysis and technical file you can produce on request.
Traceability and incident reporting
Supply-chain traceability sufficient for recall, plus an incident-reporting workflow tied to the EU Safety Business Gateway.
Key dates and what they trigger
GPSR fully applicable
Replaced the 2001 directive across all 27 member states. No grandfathering.
Marketplace verification
Marketplaces required to verify RP, warnings and traceability before listing.
Safety Gate enforcement
Member-state authorities can request your technical file and act on Safety Gate alerts.
From exposed to audit-ready
Six readiness checks Regonance turns from gap to source-traced for GPSR.

An audit snapshot you can attach to Shopify, Etsy and Amazon EU listings — re-run automatically when you add SKUs.
The gaps we see most often on GPSR
- No EU Responsible Person named on the product or listing
- Technical file incomplete or missing entirely
- Warnings and instructions in English only
- Manufacturer contact details absent on packaging
- No incident-reporting workflow tied to Safety Business Gateway
Every GPSR finding is source-traced — what the gap is, where it came from in your inputs, and the remediation step. A readiness report, not a verdict.
GPSR questions, answered
Do I need GPSR readiness if I only sell on Amazon EU or Etsy?
Yes. Since 13 December 2024 marketplaces have been required to verify your manufacturer, EU Responsible Person, warnings and traceability information before listing — missing any of these is grounds for delisting.
I'm a small seller — am I exempt?
No. GPSR has no small-seller or micro-enterprise exemption. Obligations attach to the product, not the company size or turnover.
What's the difference between an EU Responsible Person and an Authorised Representative?
Different regulations, similar idea. GPSR requires an EU-based Responsible Person to take legal accountability for safety information. EPR and PPWR Art. 40 require an Authorised Representative per country for producer-responsibility obligations.
What does a Regonance GPSR readiness report contain?
A per-SKU score against the six GPSR checks (identification, RP, warnings, technical file, traceability, incident reporting), a remediation list sequenced by enforcement risk, and source-traced findings.
Is a Regonance readiness report legal proof of safety?
No — it's an AI-assisted readiness assessment with source-traced findings. Informational guidance, not legal advice.
